It is a product of leucine amino acid metabolism. In this process, 5% of the metabolized leucines are converted to HMB or hydroxy beta-methyl butyrate. This supplement has been popular among athletes since 1990 when the Juven was introduced to the world. Juven was a combination of HMB, arginine, and glutamine that prevented the loss of muscle tissue in cancer and AIDS patients.

Hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB)

It was from this time that this combination came to the attention of athletes and coaches. HMB appears to stimulate the anabolism of IGF1, a semi-growth hormone. An increase in IGF1, cause the builds muscle and prevents muscle breakdown. The effects of this supplement on the mechanisms of protein production in the body have also been clearly proven.

Benefits for athletes:

This supplement seems to have many benefits for athletes, especially bodybuilders and resistance trainers. The first major effect of this supplement is its anti-catabolism or anti-muscle loss effect, which has involved athletes in many disciplines. Some types of exercise, especially in conditions of poor nutrition, can lead the body to muscle breakdown, and many studies show the inhibitory role of this supplement in these conditions. Also, by reducing muscle catabolic, less catabolic material will accumulate in the muscles after training, and as a result, taking this supplement will cause less pain and bruising after training.

It seems that a lot of research still needs to be done on how to use this supplement in different conditions and sports, but what has attracted the most attention is the beneficial effects of this supplement for athletes who suffer from long-term injuries and Or have been exposed to high-intensity exercise. Other research is currently showing an increase in strength and muscle tissue with the long-term use of this supplement.

Recommendation: 3 grams of HMB per day and one gram of this supplement per serving are recommended. Even consuming more than this amount has not had more beneficial effects.

Note: So far, no health problems have been reported with the use of this supplement, and some studies have reported a decrease in LDL fats as a result of taking this supplement.
